shishalh Nation opens Canada’s first Tesla Supercharger station to be located on First Nation Land.

Tesla and Tsain-ko Centre celebrate opening of Sunshine Coast’s first and largest Supercharger Station.

Tesla’s ongoing commitment to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy shifted into a higher gear this past week with the opening of a 12-stall Supercharger Station at Tsain-ko Centre in downtown Sechelt. Four additional charging stalls will be added in due time.
“For many reasons, we knew this was an idea – an opportunity – that we had to realize for the Sunshine Coast, for our Tsain-ko Centre customers and for our retail tenants. This charging station won’t just be a great convenience for our customers, it will help the transition away from fossil fuels” said Hiwus Warren Paull, Chief of shishalh Nation.

Kyle Lockhart, Tesla Project Developer agreed, noting “it’s fair to say we’ve been a key driver of this energy revolution, this transition, and we are proud to work with the shishalh Nation to serve our growing customer base here on the Sunshine Coast.”

It is estimated that the Sunshine Coast is rapidly approaching 500 electric vehicle drivers, and according to the Sunshine Coast Electric Vehicle Association, the coast is the fastest growing BC municipality in EV ownership.

The Tesla Supercharger station at Tsain-ko Centre is centrally located, equidistant to Starbucks, Your Independent Grocer, Shoppers DrugMart and Tim Horton’s, among several other retail services. Hiwus Warren Paull added, “fast charging at Tsain-ko Centre allows our customers to shop, bank, meet friends and enjoy a coffee or a bite while they charge up, and that’s a great benefit to our tenants as well.”
